Father Joseph on What's New

Welcome to St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church. We are a Stewardship Parish.

We are located in western Arvada, near the foothills of the majestic Rocky Mountains.  We hope you will not only visit our website, but will come to the parish in person.

Think of this website as a document that grows organically.  Always a "work in progress," it will never be finished and will always be fresh.

We welcome your suggestions and we will constantly strive to make the site better and easier to use.

Thank you for visiting with us!

For a Parish Registration Form, click here, print and fill out the form, and return it to the Parish Office.

Mission Statement:  St. Joan of Arc Parish is a Christ-centered, sacramental and stewardship community within the Archdiocese of Denver and the Roman Catholic Church. With the courage of St. Joan of Arc, our mission is to build the kingdom of God by living the gospel values of faith, hope and love and by sharing our Catholic faith with those in our community, our city, and our world.

Remember! If you consider yourself a regular parishioner, but haven't registered yet, please
print out, fill out and return the Parish Registration Form available above. It is especially
important to register if you anticipate becoming a Confirmation sponsor or Baptism godparent,
to receive one of the Sacraments, or to be married in the parish.

Have you always wanted to see your name in print? Submit your original recipe for the parish cookbook to benefit WYD 2011. The books will be available for purchase in the fall of 2009. Click here for your form, fill out both pages (two tabs at bottom of form) print, and return to the Parish Office.

Please Note: On the rare occasion that a Deacon is not present at Mass, the Eucharist will be given only in the form of the Precious Body. You will still receive the fullness of the Sacrament on these occasions.

Stewardship of Treasure: Our regular offertory for June 28 was $18,608.87. Thank you for your ongoing commitment, which helps us to meet the everyday needs of our parish. Please do not forget your contributions during the summer months. The Parish must still meet our daily expenses. As always, your support is appreciated!

Knight of the Month

This is the 3rd in a series designed to honor the newer and/or younger members of the Knights of Columbus. Hopefully, we will learn more about them and their families while making them feel more welcome and comfortable being a part of our Council. Let us all greet them when we see them and make a habit of inviting them to our meetings and functions.

Our Knight of The Month for July 2009 is LeRoy Schroder, a solid Citizen and a solid SJA Parishioner. LeRoy and wife Kathleen were married for 43 years in June. They have 2 Daughters, Deanna and Linnea. They are proud Grandparents of 1 granddaughter Elizabeth, 8 years and 4 grandsons, Joseph 8 years, Cameron 6 years, Jake 4 years and Christopher, 1 year. They have been active members of all three Arvada Parishes, Spirit of Christ, Saint Anne’s, and then members of Saint Joan of Arc since 1975.

LeRoy has been a very active in the Men’s Club since the late 70’s. He served as the Men’s Club President in 1981 and 1982 when the club was in charge of practically all parish functions such as dances dinners, picnics and golf tournaments. LeRoy’s other areas of volunteer work have been Eucharistic Minister, Perpetual Adoration, Loss of a Child programs, Lutheran Hospital volunteer, Memorial for Feast of the Innocents, Mountain Vista Eucharistic Substitute and more.

LeRoy has been a member of our Knight’s council for 4 months and is already becoming active in our meetings and activities. His motivations to become a Knight are the many opportunities we offer to serve others, and he quoted a favorite creed (“Service to Humanity is the Best Work of Life”) along with the fact that his long-time friend Knight Dallas Elder recommended it. A little prompting along the way from Dan, Norm, and Pat was also a strong influence.

LeRoy is already a frequent volunteer at the Pancake Breakfasts and Heaven’s Helpers Yard Projects. He is looking forward to more opportunities with Respect Life Programs. He speaks often of Spiritual Adoption and the related homes that he and Kathy visit and serve each year, such as Mary’s Maternity of Motherhood, Shannon’s Hope, Life Choices, Bridgeway, Brandon Center, and the Alternatives Pregnancy Center. He and Kathy help promote Project Rachael and strongly support the Pro-Life marches at the abortion clinics.
Before he took on the full-time position of volunteer, Leroy’s career was 35½ years with the U.S. Geological Survey Branch of the Federal Government. He joined them after college where he majored in Chemistry, minored in math and became interested in hydrology as a specialty.

You have been introduced to a guy we can all look up to and a guy who is a personal friend to many of us. He lives by his codes of Catholic training and beliefs. He quotes St. Paul (Without Good Works, Faith is Nothing). Somehow, we continue to get the best of the best.

St. Paul Movie Night: Thanks to the 50+ parishioners, including many of our youth, who attended St. Paul Movie Night! We enjoyed an informative movie about the saint who walked thousands of miles to spread the word about Christ, and who revolutionized Christianity. We also enjoyed some good snacks and fellowship. Check your bulletin and this website for future Movie Nights. If you have suggestions about what you might like to see, contact Deacon Buddy, Pat or Elisabeth in the Parish Office.

St. Joseph Food Drive: The Saint Joseph food drive will be the weekend of July 11-12. Leave your non-perishable food and paper goods in the Orleans Hall closet or the wooden bin marked for donations.

Summerfest is Coming! The next planning meeting will be on Thursday, July 30 at 7 p.m. in the Parish Office Conference Room. If you have helped in the past or want to help this year, plan on attending.

Also needed are donations of quality items for the Country Store and bingo, as well as 2-liter bottles of soda for the ring toss. Bring your donations to the Orleans Hall closet.

Youth Summer Activities: Lots of fun activities are planned for this summer. Click here to go to the Youth Ministry page and find out all about them.

Help Wanted: Thanks to our long-time Altar Server Coordinator Jan Barowsky. Jan has decided to retire from that ministry. If you would like to step up and take her place, please contact Deacon Buddy in the Parish Office. Jan has a well-organized file that she will be happy to pass on. A volunteer is needed by Sept.1.

Year of the Priest: June 19, 2009 - June 19, 2010 has been named as the Year of the Priest. Join in honoring Father Joseph, ordained July 1, 2000 and Father Frank Deml, Coal Creek Community, ordained May 30, 1957 during this special time, and keep them in your prayers!

What's Happening at St. Joan of Arc:
If the time is right for you or someone you know to become a full member of the Catholic Church, contact Sister Margaret in the Parish Office to find out about RCIA.

2009 Stewardship Guidebook: St. Joan of Arc's new guidebook is ready to go to the printer. When you receive your free copy, you will find lots of useful information about our Parish, our ministries, and local advertisers. There is also a Parish Directory. If you do not wish your name to appear in the Parish Directory section, please contact Pat or Sharon in the Parish Office no later than July 6.

Save the Date for Family Camping: Sponsored by the Youth Ministry, there will be a summer fun family camping trip the weekend of August 14-16. Watch for details here and in your bulletin.

Do You Enjoy People? If so, front desk volunteers are needed in the Parish Office. Your duties would be light, and the only requirements are a willingness to help and a pleasant personality! Contact Sharon in the Parish Office if you have some time to give.
